NCT ID NCT06440395
First seen Aug 03, 2026 · Last updated Aug 04, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This trial tests a 4-week diet and exercise program called Small Steps for Big Changes in adults with prediabetes. Participants will attend supervised exercise sessions and learn to cut sugar and refined carbs while increasing vegetables. The study aims to see if this program can be successfully delivered at YMCAs across Canada and whether it helps lower blood sugar, weight, and diabetes risk over two years.

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Small Steps for Big Changes Diabetes Prevention Program
- What this could lead to
- If effective, this program could be widely adopted in community centers to help prevent type 2 diabetes in high-risk adults.
- What could go wrong
- The program is short (4 weeks) and relies on self-reported outcomes; long-term adherence and real-world implementation may vary, and results may not generalize beyond the participating YMCAs.
