Summary

This study tested a diabetes prevention program adapted for American Indian men living on the Colville reservation. Overweight and obese men without diabetes took part in a culturally informed program aimed at weight loss and reducing diabetes risk. The trial enrolled 113 men and measured changes in weight, blood pressure, and readiness to change habits.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
culturally adapted diabetes prevention program
What this could lead to
If successful, this approach could offer an effective way to prevent diabetes in American Indian communities.
What could go wrong
This was a small, single-site study with 113 men, so results may not apply to other groups or settings. Weight loss can be hard to maintain long-term.
