Menstrual cycle forces women with diabetes to hack their insulin pumps
NCT ID NCT07696780
First seen Jul 10, 2026 · Last updated Jul 10, 2026
Summary
This study investigates how women with type 1 diabetes manually adjust their automated insulin delivery (AID) systems to manage blood sugar changes during their menstrual cycle. Researchers will interview 69 women to catalog strategies like entering fake carbohydrates or changing insulin settings, and measure how often these adjustments are needed. The goal is to gather data that could help design smarter AID algorithms that automatically account for menstrual cycle-related insulin sensitivity shifts.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this study could help design automated insulin delivery systems that automatically adjust for menstrual cycle changes, reducing the burden on women with type 1 diabetes.
- What could go wrong
- This is an observational study with a small sample size (69 participants), so findings may not apply to all women. It identifies problems but does not test a solution.
