First seen Feb 26, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 12 times
Summary
This study tested whether adding the steroid dexamethasone to a nerve block (ESP block) could improve pain control after lumbar laminectomy (back surgery). 36 adults were randomly assigned to receive either the nerve block with dexamethasone or without. The dexamethasone group had longer pain relief, lower inflammation markers, and needed less opioid pain medication after surgery.
