Laser and gel combo zaps tooth pain in new study

NCT ID NCT06967818

First seen Jan 17, 2026 · Last updated Jun 17, 2026 · Updated 16 times

Summary

This study tested whether using a diode laser along with a potassium nitrate gel (a desensitizing toothpaste ingredient) works better than the gel alone for treating sensitive teeth. Twenty-three adults with tooth sensitivity received either the real laser plus gel or a sham laser plus gel. Their pain was measured right after treatment and again at 1, 3, and 6 months. The goal was to see if the laser boosts and extends the relief from the gel.
