Summary
This study brings together 40 international experts, including doctors and patients, to agree on a clear definition and severity ranking of lung complications that can occur after surgery. The results will help improve patient care and make future research more consistent.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to a standard, clear definition of lung complications after surgery, helping doctors detect and treat them earlier.
What could go wrong
This is an expert opinion study, not a treatment trial. The results may not change practice if consensus is not reached or is not adopted widely.
