Heart rhythm hope: common diabetes drug tested to stop AFib recurrence
NCT ID NCT07187570
First seen Oct 31, 2025 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 25 times
Summary
This study tests whether dapagliflozin, a drug used for diabetes, can reduce the return of atrial fibrillation (an irregular heartbeat) after a procedure called cardioversion that restores normal rhythm. About 1600 adults aged 55 and older with AFib will take dapagliflozin or receive usual care for up to 56 days. Researchers will monitor heart rhythms using a handheld device to see if the drug helps keep the heart in normal rhythm longer.
