NCT ID NCT07657455
First seen Jun 23, 2026
Summary
This study will test whether taking oral iron supplements every other day works as well as taking them daily for pregnant women with iron deficiency anemia in their second trimester. About 184 women will be randomly assigned to one of two dosing schedules for four weeks. Researchers will measure changes in hemoglobin and ferritin levels, track how well women stick to the regimen, and monitor stomach-related side effects.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Ferrous sulfate (oral iron supplement)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could show that taking iron every other day is just as effective as daily dosing, with fewer side effects and better adherence for pregnant women with anemia.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial (184 participants) that hasn't started yet. Results may not apply to all pregnant women, and the four-week duration is too short to assess long-term outcomes or safety.
