New breathing test may help COPD patients get off ventilators faster

NCT ID NCT07590362

First seen May 23, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026

Summary

This study looks at 100 COPD patients on breathing machines to see if a new ultrasound-based breathing test (D-RSBI) is better than the standard test (RSBI) at predicting when they can safely breathe on their own. Researchers will measure the diaphragm during a breathing trial and check how patients do for 3 days after the tube is removed. The goal is to improve weaning success and avoid failed extubation.
