Scientists probe hidden causes of chronic pain after surgery

NCT ID NCT06418295

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 25, 2026 · Updated 29 times

Summary

This study looks at why some people develop ongoing pain for months after chest surgery. Researchers will measure certain molecules in the blood before and after surgery to see if changes in these molecules are linked to long-term pain. They will also check if small modifications to DNA (called epigenetics) control these changes. The goal is to gather information to plan a larger study that could one day lead to better treatments.
