New urine test may spare young cancer patients from painful kidney checks
NCT ID NCT02822404
First seen Apr 02, 2026 · Last updated May 21, 2026 · Updated 8 times
Summary
This study looked at whether a substance called cystatin C in urine can reliably show kidney damage in children receiving chemotherapy drugs cisplatin and ifosfamide. These drugs can harm the kidneys, especially in kids, but current tests are hard to do on children. Researchers measured cystatin C levels in 42 children during and after treatment to see if it works as a simple, non-invasive marker. The goal was to find a better way to monitor kidney health without extra stress for young patients.
