Breathing trick may help doctors avoid overloading ICU patients with fluids

NCT ID NCT03780660

First seen Jan 04, 2026 · Last updated Apr 29, 2026 · Updated 16 times

Summary

This study looked at 68 intensive care patients who were breathing on their own. Doctors measured changes in a vein pressure (CVP) during a deep breath to see if it could predict whether giving more fluids would help their heart pump better. The goal is to find a simple, non-invasive way to avoid giving unnecessary fluids, which can be harmful.
