Can a CT scan replace a scope for kids who inhale objects?

NCT ID NCT00747981

First seen Jan 17, 2026 · Last updated Jun 17, 2026 · Updated 22 times

Summary

This study looked at whether a chest CT scan can accurately diagnose when a child has inhaled a foreign object, like a toy part or food. Researchers compared CT scan results with the standard method, a bronchoscopy (a tube with a camera). The goal was to see if the CT scan could reduce the need for more invasive procedures. The study involved 311 children aged 6 months to 16 years who were suspected of inhaling something.
