Heart procedure showdown: does extra freezing beat standard treatment for AFib?
NCT ID NCT05296824
First seen Nov 05, 2025 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 28 times
Summary
This study looked at 320 people with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (a type of irregular heartbeat that comes and goes). Researchers compared two heart procedures using a freezing balloon: one that only freezes the pulmonary veins (standard) and one that also freezes the back wall of the heart's left upper chamber. The goal was to see which method better prevents the irregular heartbeat from coming back over more than 3 years.
