First seen Jan 04, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 23 times
Summary
This study tested whether freezing small nerves between the ribs (cryoablation) can reduce pain and the need for strong painkillers after minimally invasive mitral valve surgery. Thirty adults were randomly assigned to receive either the nerve freezing or standard care. The goal was to see if this approach lowers pain scores and opioid use in the first days after surgery.
