First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Jun 23, 2026 · Updated 31 times
Summary
This study tested whether a daily capsule of cranberry, hibiscus, vitamin C, and lactobacillus could extend the time between water breaking early (PROM) and delivery in 84 pregnant women between 24 and 34 weeks. Half got the supplement, half got a placebo for 10 days. The goal was to see if the supplement safely prolongs pregnancy and reduces complications for mother and baby.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
cranberry extract, hibiscus extract, vitamin C, and lactobacillus
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a simple, low-cost supplement to help pregnant women with PROM delay delivery and reduce complications.
What could go wrong
This is a small, completed trial with only 84 participants, so results may not apply widely. The supplement may not prolong latency or prevent complications.
