Drugs tested to shield frontline workers from COVID

NCT ID NCT04344379

Summary

This study tested whether two existing drugs, azithromycin and hydroxychloroquine, could prevent COVID-19 infection in hospital workers frequently exposed to the virus. Over 120 healthcare workers who tested negative for the virus were randomly assigned to receive one of the drugs or a placebo pill for 40 days. Researchers tracked who became infected to see if either drug offered protective benefits against catching the virus.
