Can steroids help ICU patients swallow again after a breathing tube?

NCT ID NCT06670521

First seen May 07, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 5 times

Summary

This study tests if a short course of steroids given through a vein can reduce throat swelling and improve swallowing in people who recently had a breathing tube in the ICU. About 80 adults with confirmed throat swelling will be randomly assigned to receive either steroids or a placebo. The goal is to see if steroids help the swelling go down faster, which may make eating and drinking safer.
