Which steroid helps you wake up faster after surgery? new study aims to find out
NCT ID NCT07187037
First seen Oct 31, 2025 · Last updated Jun 22, 2026 · Updated 31 times
Summary
This study compares two common steroids, methylprednisolone and dexamethasone, given during anesthesia to see how they affect the time it takes for a muscle relaxant to wear off. 130 adults having nose surgery will be randomly assigned to one steroid or the other. Researchers will measure how quickly the muscle relaxant is reversed, as well as pain and nausea after surgery. The goal is to provide better guidance on which steroid to use for smoother recovery.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
methylprednisolone and dexamethasone (corticosteroids)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could help anesthesiologists choose the best steroid to speed up recovery from muscle relaxants and reduce side effects like nausea after surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study (130 patients) focused on timing and symptoms, not a cure. Results may not apply to other surgeries or patient groups.
