Night owl fix: melatonin may lift mood in bipolar disorder

NCT ID NCT06226025

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 24 times

Summary

This study tests whether a low-dose melatonin supplement, combined with a behavioral sleep program, can shift the body clock earlier and improve mood and sleep in people with bipolar disorder. About 50 adults with bipolar I or II who are evening types and have mild depression will take either melatonin or a placebo for 4 weeks. The goal is to see if this approach can ease depressive symptoms and reset sleep timing.
