New study aims to uncover hidden muscle weakness in early lung disease
NCT ID NCT07249567
First seen Jan 05, 2026
Summary
This study compares muscle strength, exercise ability, and oxygen use in 60 people with COPD, a condition called PRISm (which is like early-stage COPD), and healthy volunteers. Researchers will measure breathing muscle strength, arm and leg strength, and how well muscles use oxygen during exercise. The goal is to understand how PRISm affects the body compared to COPD and normal aging.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this study could help doctors better understand and manage breathing and muscle problems in people with early-stage lung conditions like PRISm.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It will not test any new drug or therapy, so it cannot directly improve health outcomes.
Conditions
