Scientists deliberately give cold virus to COPD patients to find new treatments

NCT ID NCT07112235

First seen Apr 15, 2026 · Last updated May 01, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study aims to understand why the common cold (rhinovirus) causes severe flare-ups in people with COPD. Researchers will intentionally infect 50 volunteers (some with COPD, some healthy) with the virus in a controlled setting. By comparing their immune responses, they hope to identify new targets for treatments that could prevent or reduce these dangerous exacerbations.
