New brain zaps could quiet shaky hands without constant stimulation

NCT ID NCT05897775

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 19, 2026 · Updated 23 times

Summary

This study tests a new type of deep brain stimulation (DBS) for people with essential tremor, a condition that causes shaking hands. Instead of using constant high-energy pulses like standard DBS, the new method uses lower-energy patterns that may work better and have fewer side effects. About 23 adults who already have a DBS device will take part to see if this approach is safe and helps reduce tremors.
