New leg pressure monitor could save limbs in sedated ECMO patients

NCT ID NCT05830721

First seen Jan 08, 2026 · Last updated May 01, 2026 · Updated 15 times

Summary

This study tests a new device that continuously measures pressure in the leg to detect compartment syndrome—a condition where blood flow is cut off—in patients on ECMO life support. Because these patients are sedated and can't report symptoms, early diagnosis is hard. The study will compare the new device with standard methods in 6 adults to see if it helps catch the problem faster and prevent amputation.
