Massive australian trial tests if less frequent HPV tests can prevent cervical cancer better than pap smears
NCT ID NCT02328872
First seen Apr 22, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 6 times
Summary
This large study compares two ways to screen for cervical cancer in over 76,000 Australian women aged 25-69. One group gets a standard Pap smear every 2.5 years, while the other gets an HPV test every 5 years. The goal is to see if the less frequent HPV test is just as good or better at finding early signs of cancer, including in women who received the HPV vaccine.
