New breathing technique may improve safety in throat surgeries

NCT ID NCT06493162

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Jun 22, 2026 · Updated 31 times

Summary

This completed trial with 68 patients compared two ways of using a breathing machine during microscopic throat surgery. One method uses a steady flow of air in and out, while the other uses a set volume of air. The goal was to see if the steady-flow method could work with lower pressure, which might be safer when using a small breathing tube. The study measured peak pressure, breathing rate, and lung flexibility.
