Less invasive procedure tested as alternative to surgery for painful pelvic infection
NCT ID NCT03819309
Summary
This study tested if a less invasive procedure works as well as surgery for treating a painful pelvic infection called a tubo-ovarian abscess. 208 women with this infection were randomly assigned to have the abscess drained either with a needle guided by ultrasound or through keyhole surgery. Both groups also received a full course of antibiotics. The main goal was to see if the needle procedure was just as effective at curing the infection.
