New MRI dye could sharpen artery scans for leg pain patients

NCT ID NCT00707876

First seen Apr 16, 2026 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 8 times

Summary

This study tested two ways of using MRI to see blockages in the leg arteries of 119 people with peripheral artery disease (PAD). One method used a special dye called ferumoxytol to make blood vessels stand out, while the other relied on natural blood flow. Both were compared to a standard X-ray technique. The goal was to see which MRI method gives clearer and more reliable images to help doctors diagnose PAD without using X-rays.
