New MRI contrast agent may improve artery blockage detection

NCT ID NCT00707876

First seen Apr 16, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 6 times

Summary

This study tested two MRI methods for finding narrowed or blocked arteries in the pelvis and legs of people with peripheral arterial disease (PAD). One method uses a special contrast agent called ferumoxytol to make blood vessels stand out, while the other relies on natural blood flow. Both were compared to a standard X-ray technique. The goal was to see which MRI method is more accurate for diagnosis.
