First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 25, 2026 · Updated 37 times

Summary

This study tested two methods for draining excess fluid from around the lungs in 60 adults with large, symptomatic pleural effusions. One group had fluid removed by manual suction (active aspiration), while the other used gravity drainage (passive aspiration). The goal was to see which method is faster, removes more fluid, and causes less pain or discomfort.
