Watch or imagine? study tests which mental trick boosts jump height
NCT ID NCT07711054
First seen Jul 17, 2026 · Last updated Jul 17, 2026
Summary
This study compares two brief mental techniques—watching a video of a squat vertical jump (action observation) versus imagining performing the jump (motor imagery)—to see which one improves jump height more. Healthy adults who have never done this jump before will take part in six training sessions over two weeks. Their jump height is measured with an optical system before and after each mental stimulus to find the cognitive boost.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- action observation stimulus and motor imagery stimulus
- What this could lead to
- If one method proves superior, it could point toward simple, low-cost mental training techniques to improve athletic performance.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage study in healthy volunteers, so results may not apply to athletes or real-world sports settings.
