First seen Jun 20, 2026 · Last updated Jun 20, 2026

Summary

This phase 2 trial is testing a combination of three drugs—ATRA (a vitamin A derivative), bevacizumab (a blood vessel growth blocker), and atezolizumab (an immunotherapy)—in 22 people with advanced colorectal cancer that has not responded to prior treatments. The goal is to see if this mix can shrink tumors or stop them from growing. Participants receive ATRA pills at home and the other two drugs through an IV every two weeks.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

all-trans-retinoic acid (ATRA), bevacizumab, and atezolizumab

What this could lead to

If successful, this combination could offer a new treatment option for patients with advanced colorectal cancer that has stopped responding to standard therapies.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-phase trial with only 22 participants, so results may not apply to a larger population. The combination may cause significant side effects, and the cancer may still progress.
