New device aims to spare rectal cancer patients from a stoma

Summary

This study tests a device called ColoSeal that is placed inside the bowel after rectal cancer surgery to protect the new connection. The goal is to see if it can safely reduce the need for a temporary stoma (an opening in the belly for waste). About 250 adults with rectal cancer will take part, and the device will be compared to standard care.
