Collagen vs. glucosamine: which supplement eases knee pain?
NCT ID NCT07746466
First seen Aug 05, 2026 · Last updated Aug 11, 2026 · Updated 3 times
Summary
This trial tests whether a daily bioactive collagen peptide supplement can improve knee pain, stiffness, and physical function in adults with mild to moderate knee osteoarthritis. Participants are randomly assigned to take either the collagen supplement or a glucosamine and chondroitin combination for 12 weeks. The study measures changes in symptoms and quality of life using standard questionnaires, and tracks any side effects. The goal is to see if collagen peptide is a safe and effective non-surgical option for managing knee osteoarthritis.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Bioactive collagen peptide (fish collagen with Curcuma longa extract) compared with glucosamine and chondroitin sulphate
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could offer a simpler, non-surgical option for managing mild to moderate knee osteoarthritis symptoms.
- What could go wrong
- This is a 12-week trial with 150 participants, so results may not apply broadly. Supplements can cause side effects, and the collagen may not prove better than the standard combination.
