Chill out: cold water may ease wisdom tooth recovery

NCT ID NCT07243210

First seen Nov 21, 2025 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 20 times

Summary

This study tested whether using cold saline (0-4°C) instead of room-temperature saline during wisdom tooth surgery reduces pain, swelling, and jaw stiffness. Fourteen healthy adults with two impacted wisdom teeth had one tooth removed with cold saline and the other with room-temperature saline. Researchers measured pain, swelling, and a blood inflammation marker (CRP) over a week to see which temperature worked better.
