Chill out: cold saline may ease wisdom tooth recovery

NCT ID NCT07243210

First seen Nov 21, 2025 · Last updated May 08, 2026 · Updated 19 times

Summary

This study tested whether using cold saline (0-4°C) instead of room-temperature saline during wisdom tooth removal reduces pain, swelling, and jaw stiffness afterward. Fourteen healthy adults with two impacted wisdom teeth each had one tooth removed with cold saline and the other with room-temperature saline. Researchers measured pain, swelling, and a marker of inflammation (C-reactive protein) in saliva to see which temperature worked better.
