Heart bypass patients: could a cheap pill stop a dangerous side effect?

Summary
This study tests whether colchicine, a medicine used for gout, can lower inflammation and reduce the risk of developing atrial fibrillation (an irregular heartbeat) after coronary artery bypass surgery. 24 adults scheduled for bypass surgery will be randomly assigned to receive either colchicine or a placebo alongside standard care. Researchers will measure inflammation markers and track heart rhythm for 10 days after surgery to see if colchicine helps.
