Heart bypass patients: could colchicine lower your risk of a dangerous irregular heartbeat?

NCT ID NCT07287345

First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 17 times

Summary

This study tests whether colchicine, a medicine used for gout, can reduce inflammation and lower the chance of developing atrial fibrillation (an irregular heartbeat) after heart bypass surgery. About 24 adults scheduled for bypass surgery will be randomly assigned to receive either colchicine or a placebo, along with standard care. Researchers will track inflammation markers and heart rhythm for 10 days after surgery to see if colchicine helps.
