First seen Jun 13, 2026 · Last updated Jun 19, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This pilot study will test a decision support tool called COAST, available as a booklet and website, designed to help people with stage IV breast cancer have better conversations with their doctors about treatment options. About 100 patients will use the tool and fill out surveys before and after to see if it improves communication and is easy to use. Some patients may also be invited for an interview to share their experience.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Decision support tool (booklet and website)
What this could lead to
If successful, the COAST tool could help patients with advanced breast cancer feel more informed and supported when making treatment decisions with their doctors.
What could go wrong
This is a small pilot study (100 participants) focused on feasibility and acceptability, not on health outcomes. The tool may not improve communication or may not work well in other hospitals.
