At-Home Finger-Prick test could help transplant patients avoid dangerous infections

NCT ID NCT03910478

First seen Feb 26, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 13 times

Summary

This study tested whether a simple finger-prick blood test done at home, with reminders from a mobile device, helps bone marrow transplant patients stay on schedule with weekly CMV monitoring. CMV is a common virus that can cause serious illness in people with weakened immune systems after transplant. The study involved 622 participants and compared the home-testing approach to standard clinic visits to see which led to better testing compliance.
