New study aims to stop a common virus threat after kidney transplant

NCT ID NCT06798909

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 29 times

Summary

This study tests two different approaches to prevent cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection in kidney transplant patients who are at high risk because the donor had CMV but the recipient did not. One group will take daily antiviral medicine for 200 days, while the other group will have weekly blood tests and only take medicine if the virus appears. The goal is to see which method better prevents CMV disease in the first year after transplant.
