New shoulder block may protect breathing while easing pain
NCT ID NCT07256938
First seen Dec 16, 2025 · Last updated May 25, 2026 · Updated 30 times
Summary
This study compares two types of nerve blocks for shoulder surgery pain. The standard block can sometimes cause breathing problems by paralyzing part of the diaphragm. The new approach uses a different combination of blocks lower in the neck to avoid this side effect. Researchers will enroll 60 adults to see if the new block works just as well for pain while being safer for breathing.
