Blood pressure pill tested to curb Parkinson's impulses

NCT ID NCT03552068

Summary

This study tested whether clonidine, a medication commonly used for high blood pressure, could help reduce impulsive and compulsive behaviors in people with Parkinson's disease. In this small, 8-week trial, 38 participants were randomly assigned to receive either clonidine or a placebo pill to see which was more effective. The main goal was to see if clonidine safely lowered the severity of these disruptive behaviors, which can include problems with gambling, eating, or sexuality.
