Can a leukemia drug be paused? trial tests break from Long-Term treatment

NCT ID NCT04963946

Summary

This study is testing whether it's safe and effective to stop taking the drug acalabrutinib after 18 months for older adults with a type of blood cancer called chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). The goal is to see if taking a break from the drug reduces long-term side effects and the risk of the cancer becoming resistant, while still controlling the disease. After the initial 18 months, some participants will continue the drug, while others will stop and only restart it if their cancer symptoms return.
