Blood test may reveal prostate cancer secrets without needle biopsy

NCT ID NCT01961713

First seen Jan 05, 2026 · Last updated May 17, 2026 · Updated 23 times

Summary

This study is testing a blood test that looks for tiny pieces of prostate cancer cells floating in the bloodstream, called circulating tumor cells (CTCs). The goal is to see if the number and type of these cells can tell doctors more about the cancer and how it responds to surgery. Researchers will compare blood samples taken before and after prostate removal in 200 men with early-stage prostate cancer. This is an observational study, meaning it does not provide a new treatment, but it could lead to better ways to monitor the disease.
