New coil treatment could replace brain surgery for blood clots

NCT ID NCT07197840

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 01, 2026 · Updated 21 times

Summary

This study tests a minimally invasive procedure using Numen SILK coils to treat chronic subdural hematoma, a slow-growing blood collection on the brain common in older adults. The coils are placed in an artery to block blood flow to the clot, aiming to prevent it from coming back. About 100 participants will be followed for 180 days to see if they need rescue surgery or experience complications.
