Timing is everything: new trial tests best moment for gallbladder surgery after severe pancreatitis

NCT ID NCT06113419

First seen Oct 01, 2025 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 37 times

Summary

This study looks at whether removing the gallbladder early (during the hospital stay for pancreatitis) or waiting about a month after recovery leads to better outcomes. About 134 adults with severe or moderately severe pancreatitis caused by gallstones will be randomly assigned to one of the two groups. The main goal is to see which approach causes fewer major complications and reduces the chance of the gallbladder problem coming back.
