Chewing gum could kickstart your gut after surgery
NCT ID NCT05296967
Summary
This study tested whether chewing gum helps people recover normal bowel function more quickly after abdominal surgery. It involved 128 patients who had bowel surgery and developed a common complication where the gut temporarily stops working. Researchers wanted to see if the simple act of chewing could stimulate the digestive system and shorten this recovery time.
