Chewing gum could kickstart your gut after surgery
NCT ID NCT05296967
Summary
This study tested if a simple, safe activity—chewing gum—could help patients recover normal bowel function faster after abdominal surgery. It involved 128 patients who had bowel surgery and developed a common complication where the gut temporarily stops working. Researchers compared patients who chewed gum to those who did not, measuring how quickly they could eat solid food and pass gas or stool again.
