Is chemo necessary for some nasopharyngeal cancers? new trial questions standard care
NCT ID NCT02633202
First seen May 02, 2026 · Last updated Jun 18, 2026 · Updated 12 times
Summary
This study looked at whether adding chemotherapy to radiation therapy is better than radiation alone for people with intermediate-risk nasopharyngeal carcinoma. The trial used modern intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT), which is more precise than older techniques. 338 participants were randomly assigned to receive either concurrent chemoradiotherapy or radiotherapy alone. The goal was to see if skipping chemotherapy still provides good cancer control while reducing side effects.
